A husband who pushed his wife into the sea and then threw stones to kill her off the coast of Jamjindo, Incheon, has been indicted while in custody. The Criminal Division 2 of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Wi Su-hyun) announced on the 4th that Mr. A (30) was formally charged with murder while detained.
Mr. A is accused of pushing his wife, Ms. B, in her 30s, into the sea at the Jamjindo breakwater in Jung-gu, Incheon, around 2:40 a.m. on the 15th of last month, and then throwing stones to prevent her from coming out, resulting in her death.
According to the police investigation, CCTV footage at the scene captured Mr. A repeatedly throwing large stones at Ms. B, who was struggling in the water. Actual bruises and bloodstains caused by the stones were found on the deceased Ms. B's head.
On the day of the crime, Mr. A falsely reported to 119, saying, "While I went to get some luggage from the car, my wife was drifting away in the sea." However, when the coast guard presented evidence of the crime, he admitted to the charges, stating, "I committed the crime because my conflicts with my wife continued and I thought it was impossible to live together any longer."
A prosecution official stated, "We will thoroughly prepare for the trial to ensure that a sentence commensurate with the crime is handed down," and added, "We will continue to strictly punish serious crimes such as murder."
