First Nationwide Local Government Effort to Attract 5060 Generation Residents from Major Cities Including Seoul
Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it is receiving great responses from city residents and baby boomer generation natives who wish to return to farming and fishing villages by holding the "Visiting Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village Policy Briefing Sessions."
Since February, the county has been visiting major cities to conduct return-to-farming and return-to-village briefing sessions. At a recent session held in Seoul, Goheung-gun introduced various support policies for return-to-farming and return-to-village to the natives and shared excellent cases of return-to-farming and return-to-village.
Some natives expressed regret over the population decline due to low birth rates and aging in Goheung-gun. They showed great interest in not only the county’s prioritized support policies for return-to-farming and return-to-village but also various population policies such as youth job projects, carefully gathering diverse information.
Going forward, as a response to the continuous population decline, the county plans to actively promote attracting the 50s and 60s generation to design their second life in their hometown by utilizing personal networking of natives’ gatherings such as baby boomer (born 1955?1963) generation alumni meetings living in cities.
Gong Young-min, Governor of Goheung-gun, said, “We hope to actively inform many natives and city residents dreaming of returning to their hometowns that Goheung is a ‘5060 generation-friendly city ideal for retirement life’ so that many can spend a happy old age in Goheung.”
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun is conducting various promotional activities for return-to-farming and return-to-village, such as return-to-farming and return-to-village fairs, operation of return-to-farming and return-to-village happiness schools, fam tours for rural life experience, and living trials in Goheung, to meet the increasing demand every year.
