Emergency Cabinet Meeting Convened for 6 Billion Won Contingency Fund Disbursement
Rapid Support for Heatwave Response Supplies and Medical Materials
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo instructed related ministries, including the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, to "immediately execute contingency funds to prevent heatstroke patients and swiftly implement all necessary measures for meals, facilities, hygiene, and safety" regarding the Saemangeum World Jamboree, an international event suffering disruptions due to scorching heat and operational deficiencies.
Prime Minister Han made this announcement on the 4th during an emergency Cabinet meeting held at the Government Seoul Office. He urgently convened the temporary Cabinet meeting that morning to review and approve contingency funds amounting to 6 billion KRW to support the World Jamboree. The contingency funds will be used to provide supplies and medical materials necessary for the Scouts attending the Jamboree to cope with the heatwave.
He pointed out, "Although this is an unprecedented heatwave, it should not serve as an excuse for the government's inadequate response," adding, "If anything is lacking, it must be sufficiently supplemented, and there must be agility in crisis management to respond promptly to unforeseen emergencies."
Prime Minister Han conveyed that President Yoon Suk-yeol instructed on the same day to "provide unlimited spaces where youth can rest comfortably and immediately improve the quality and quantity of meals." He also stated, "The government will concentrate all its capabilities to ensure that Jamboree activities can be completed safely from the heatwave."
Prime Minister Han also referred to the recent "random stabbing incident" in Seohyeon-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, urging the police and related ministries to prepare preventive measures. He said, "The National Police Agency should conduct a thorough investigation and promptly identify the cause of this incident," and added, "To prevent recurrence of similar crimes, related ministries must quickly establish comprehensive measures covering the entire process from fundamental prevention, arrest, punishment, to rehabilitation."
