Oh Eon-seok, Dobong District Mayor, was born in 1971 and is the youngest among the 25 Seoul district mayors of the 8th elected term. He is one year younger than Lee Soo-hee, Gangdong District Mayor.
Because of this, when he sees other Seoul district mayors, he calls them “hyungnim” (older brother), and he calls Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who shares the same surname, “ajeossi” (mister), demonstrating his excellent sociability.
He refers to himself as “Oh Seobang” to residents he meets in the area, and even children he meets at water playgrounds greet him by saying, “Oh Seobang District Mayor is here.”
With such exceptional sociability, Mayor Oh Eon-seok created a unique 'theme-type heatwave shelter' inside the district office and invited Prime Minister Han Deok-soo on the 3rd, receiving praise.
The heatwave shelter in Dobong District Office is not just a resting place. It is popular because it offers customized spaces for residents, including a ‘nap room’ with single sofas for massages, a yoga room, a selfie room, and rooms for playing janggi (Korean chess) and baduk (Go).
An elderly resident said, “I often use it because yoga lectures are shown on TV,” expressing joy. Another student said, “I like that there is a selfie room equipped with wigs.”
This idea is known to have come purely from “Oh Seobang” Oh Eon-seok himself.
Since his inauguration just over a year ago, Mayor Oh has pushed forward major projects such as ▲confirmation of undergrounding the GTX-C line ▲relaxation of altitude restrictions on Bukhansan Mountain, a long-standing wish of Dobong-gu ▲passing the environmental impact assessment for the Uui~Banghak light rail, earning the reputation of a ‘competent district mayor’ among local residents.
Dobong-gu had a three-term mayor, Lee Dong-jin of the Democratic Party, from 2010 to 2022. Also, the late lawmaker Kim Geun-tae and his wife, lawmaker In Jae-geun, were elected as local members of the National Assembly, making the area effectively a Democratic Party stronghold.
It was difficult to be elected as Dobong District Mayor as a candidate from the People Power Party in such a region, but Mayor Oh has gained great popularity by achieving results in every project he undertakes.
