Shin Pyung: "Yoon, 'Absolutely cannot trust the People Power Party'... Considering forming a new party"

Shin Pyeong, a lawyer known as "President Yoon Seok-yeol's mentor," revealed that a recent public opinion poll showed that the People Power Party's number of seats could decrease further due to failure to capture the Seoul metropolitan area next year, and that President Yoon is considering forming a new party.

On the 3rd, Shin said on KBS's "Joo Jin-woo Live," "Recently, the People Power Party conducted a public opinion poll, and the results were so shocking that it caused a complete panic for the party."

He added, "The poll showed that the People Power Party was almost completely wiped out in the Seoul metropolitan area, and the total number of seats is expected to decrease even more than the current count, which is a devastating result causing significant shock." He continued, "In this process, I vaguely heard that President Yoon said, 'The People Power Party is absolutely hopeless,' and that he is even considering forming a new party."

He also said, "I don't know how credible this information is, but it seems that President Yoon is seriously contemplating issues related to next year's general election."

Shin emphasized that President Yoon has consistently faced criticism within the party. He said, "President Yoon is a political newcomer, and regarding this, long-standing stakeholders of the People Power Party such as Yoo Seung-min, former party leader Lee Jun-seok, and Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo have always disparaged and criticized him." He added, "In this situation, we need to consider whether the president can lead this party and achieve his political goals."

In response to the host's question about whether President Yoon could work together with former leader Lee, former lawmaker Yoo, and Mayor Hong, he said, "I think it is impossible to work together." He explained, "Basically, these individuals, who have long influenced the People Power Party, hold a disparaging attitude toward President Yoon as a political newcomer, and it seems unlikely that this will be corrected. So, how much President Yoon wants to reorganize the party must be considerable."
