Ruling Party and Government Focus on Safe Operation of Jamboree... Yoon Jae-ok Says "Responsibility Will Be Addressed Later" (Summary)

Expansion of Electrical Capacity, Supply of Cooling Tents, Buses, and Ice Water
Foreign Media to Explain Government Response Measures Through Diplomatic Missions

The ruling party and the government have decided to mobilize all government capabilities to ensure the safe operation of the Saemangeum World Jamboree. They will also focus diplomatic efforts on alleviating concerns of overseas participants' parents through foreign media and diplomatic missions.

On this day, Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, and Park Gu-yeon, First Deputy Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, discussed this at the "Emergency Safety Management Measures Review Meeting for the World Scout Jamboree" held at the National Assembly.

After the meeting, Floor Leader Yoon said, "In addition to existing measures, we have decided to immediately improve facilities for heatstroke patients, meal services, and hygiene and safety-related necessities to prepare for record-breaking heatwaves during the Jamboree and to support safe scout activities for the largest number of participants ever."

Regarding this, he explained, "To minimize heatstroke patients caused by the heatwave, we will expand electricity supply capacity, newly distribute cooling tent buses, and immediately deploy additional medical personnel and supplies to enhance response capabilities in case of heatstroke patients."

He also introduced, "We will establish and implement the highest level of safety measures in preparation for participants' various regional and external activities, as well as upcoming mass gatherings such as the K-pop concert and closing ceremony. We will significantly expand manpower and supplies to ensure participants receive high-quality meals promptly and have stable access to clean restrooms and shower facilities."

They will also provide explanations to alleviate concerns related to Jamboree operations from overseas participants' parents and others. Floor Leader Yoon stated, "Through 24-hour emergency duty, we will thoroughly inspect and take action on safety-related situations of participants. Additionally, by providing detailed explanations of government measures to diplomatic missions and foreign media, we will address concerns held by foreign governments and parents of foreign participants."

Regarding concerns about the quality of supplied food, First Deputy Minister Park said, "We believe the issue was not about food spoilage but delays in distribution caused by rain and the process of going to the site, as well as participants arriving late at night and not receiving snacks properly. Except for some mold found on eggs distributed, other food items have been confirmed to be problem-free." He added, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety is managing this, and going forward, the government will maximize additional snack supplies and secure ice water. We are also devising supplementary measures such as supplying an additional approximately 100,000 servings daily."

After the meeting, Floor Leader Yoon said at the People Power Party's floor strategy meeting, "As stated in this morning's meeting, the government and ruling party will implement all necessary measures to quickly improve the Jamboree site and do their best to monitor and manage the situation until all scouts return home healthy. It is not too late to assign responsibility or review the preparation process later. The role of the political sphere now is to provide accurate information to our citizens and those of participating countries and to send voices of support to help the global youth festival conclude successfully, preventing any potential stagnation in atmosphere."

He urged, "While the political sphere can voice concerns about the harsh conditions of the Jamboree, there should be no unfounded claims that cause confusion and anxiety. Since a global event is being held in Jeonbuk after a long time, both ruling and opposition parties must work together to overcome confusion and ensure that participants leave with many good memories, making it a wonderful experience."
