Lee Jun-seok, former leader of the People Power Party who strongly pushed for the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family during his tenure, raised his voice against the Ministry supporting the World Scout Jamboree (hereafter Jamboree) event, saying, "If you promoted the Jamboree hosting strongly, you should also take clear responsibility."
On the 3rd, Lee stated on his social media (SNS), "The biggest problem with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family is that it does not even know well what it should do."
The Jamboree is the world's largest youth festival hosted by the World Organization of the Scout Movement, with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family serving as the main government agency in charge.
Lee criticized, "The Ministry of Gender Equality, which was temporarily assigned a role to promote women's rights, was criticized for having no regular duties and only conducting campaigns, so it added family and youth affairs as regular duties and became the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. Claiming youth affairs, it tried to artificially create a presence through measures like the game shutdown policy. It is also burdened with difficult tasks such as multicultural care that are hard to handle given the Ministry's size and status."
He added, "Although the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family may not be the main cause of the current Jamboree incident, instead of forcibly expanding its scope while failing to handle tasks properly, it should be abolished. Issues related to universal human rights, including women's rights, should be reorganized into a Ministry of Human Rights by merging with the Ministry of Labor, and the remaining functions should be transferred to other ministries."
