Geumcheon-gu New York UN International School Meeting Participant Scholarship Support of 3.5 Million

Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that the Geumcheon Future Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Park Joon-sik) will select scholarship students for 2023 targeting elementary, middle, and high school students residing in Geumcheon-gu.


The scholarship students will be selected in two categories: the 17th regular scholarship students and the ‘Challenge! Global Exploration Team.’


The regular scholarship students total 74. The total scholarship amount awarded is 109.5 million KRW. Depending on the selection field, each student will receive either 1 million KRW or 1.5 million KRW. (In the case of groups selected in the special talent category, 2 million KRW will be awarded.)


The selection fields are ▲ Academic Excellence ▲ Academic Improvement ▲ Special Talents (arts, sports, science, etc.) ▲ Good Deeds ▲ Multicultural ▲ Self-directed Dream Fulfillment, totaling 6 fields.


‘Challenge! Global Exploration Team’ is an overseas training program designed to help youth gain diverse overseas experience and grow as future leaders.


Geumcheon-gu plans to support selected students with participation costs up to 3.5 million KRW per person. A total of 12 students will be selected in two fields: ▲ Participation in the United Nations International School Conference in New York ▲ Exciting Career Exploration (visiting prestigious European universities and cultural-historical sites).


The application period is from August 23 to September 1. Applicants must submit the application form and required documents for each field to the District Office Education Support Division (10th floor). Application forms can be downloaded from the Geumcheon-gu Office website under ‘Notices’ or from the Scholarship Foundation website under ‘Announcements.’


Geumcheon-gu established the scholarship foundation in November 2007 to foster local talent and promote educational development. Since 2008, approximately 1.61 billion KRW in scholarships has been awarded to a total of 1,610 students.


Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “We are pleased to support both students deprived of learning opportunities and outstanding students through this scholarship selection.” He added, “We will continue to establish and expand various scholarship programs to help nurture talents who will lead Geumcheon-gu.”
