Haman-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 1st that it is continuously recruiting professional foster parents to care for children in need of care, including infants (under 2 years old), abused children, children with disabilities, and children with borderline intelligence.

Professional foster care is a system in which foster parents with professional qualifications provide specialized family-type protection to children requiring special care until the achievement of goals such as returning to their original family or the end of protection.

The eligibility requirements for application include being at least 25 years old and having an age difference of less than 60 years with the child, having a stable income, and meeting professional qualification standards such as social workers, teachers, medical personnel, or counselors. Additionally, applicants must complete 20 hours of foster parent training and undergo a home environment investigation before final selection.

Due to the recent increase in the number of children needing care caused by child abuse cases and the institutional shift prioritizing foster care, the demand for foster care applications is urgent.

Selected professional foster families will receive monthly professional child protection fees and initial child supplies purchase costs to support caregiving during the protection period.

The head of the Resident Welfare Division said, “We will cooperate with local governments and the Gyeongnam Foster Care Support Center to help children in need of protection grow up healthily under professional care.”
