Walking along Suncheonman Eosing-gil, discussing the value and future of the mudflats

Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced that the month-long journey of the ‘2023 World Heritage Festival - Seonamsa Temple & Suncheon Bay Wetland’ has begun, starting with the Suncheon Bay Wetland Reed Road Plogging event.

On the 1st, about 70 local youths representing the future of Suncheon walked along the reed path from Jangsan Small Park to Daedae Port, opening the festival with a precious-king program where they directly observed the ecology and cleaned the environment.

In particular, this time, a special occasion was added by arranging a free discussion between Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu, who has been dedicated to preserving the value of Suncheon Bay Wetland, and the youths.

Mayor Noh said, “It would have been difficult without the efforts of our citizens for Suncheon to become a world-class ecological city,” adding, “The students who showed interest and participated in Suncheon Bay Wetland from early morning are the bright future of first-class Suncheon.”

A youth participant in the program shared, “The walk was hot and tiring, but it was enjoyable with friends, and it was a good experience to learn about the beauty of Suncheon Bay Wetland.”

The ‘2023 World Heritage Festival - Seonamsa Temple & Suncheon Bay Wetland’ presents programs that capture the value and joy of heritage through exhibitions, performances, and experiences under the theme ‘First-class Suncheon, Embracing World Heritage (Dam(湛)da).’

First, on the 4th at 6:30 PM, a value proclamation ceremony themed ‘Resonance’ will be held at the Suncheonman Wetland Lawn Square. Through a theme performance and bell-ringing ceremony, the unique features of Suncheon’s world heritage will be showcased.

After the proclamation ceremony, weekend intensive programs will officially begin, including ‘Coexistence Busking and Concert,’ ‘Temple Cuisine Tasting,’ and ‘Coexistence Road & Talk,’ where participants learn about world heritage accompanied by a guide, each with its own theme.

Additionally, programs such as ‘Rest with Letting Go (Precious-king),’ ‘Coexistence Gallery,’ and ‘Festival Stay’ will be operated regularly, filling the entire month of August.

Mayor Noh said, “We have prepared a festival that breaks away from the fixed notions of world heritage so that anyone can easily understand and enjoy it,” and added, “We hope everyone enjoys the Suncheon World Heritage Festival throughout August.”
