Name Combining 'Squad' Meaning Buddy and Group
Connecting Golf Enthusiasts, Sports Fans, and Collectors
Beta Version Released
Kakao VX announced on the 1st that it has launched the beta version of 'Buddy Squad,' a community platform for golf fans, as the company's first non-fungible token (NFT) service.
Buddy Squad is a name derived from the golf term 'birdie' and 'squad,' meaning a group or team. The company described it as an NFT-based fan community platform aiming to be a "playground for golf fans." It was created to provide a space that connects and embraces not only golf fans but also users who enjoy sports and NFT collecting, without online or offline restrictions.
The core content of Buddy Squad, which offers NFTs featuring professional golfers, consists of 'Cheering Battles' and 'Social' features. In Cheering Battles, users receive free NFTs upon signing up on the platform to enjoy various content. Users can express their fandom to their favorite professional players through functions such as 'Cheering Talk,' 'Sending Hearts,' and 'Sending Support.' The more passionately fans cheer, the higher the professional player's ranking rises, and users receive points (BDP) as rewards. In the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) tournaments, points are awarded weekly based on the performance of the players fans support, which can be used to enter raffles (lottery-style events) and participate in the community. The 'Social' content, designed to facilitate communication between professional players and fans and encourage free interaction among fans, is scheduled to be introduced in the second half of the year.
To coincide with the launch of the Buddy Squad platform, Kakao VX is offering a 30% discount on NFTs until the 21st. An event is also underway where users who sign up and check in daily on the platform for seven days can earn one Normal Lucky Draw ticket per day (up to seven tickets per person).
A Kakao VX representative stated, "Buddy Squad is a virtuous cycle community platform where golf pros and fans come together to create a new culture of communication," adding, "Starting with collaboration with KLPGA professional players, we plan to expand the platform to the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) and overseas tours."
