Russian National Samsonova (39) with Millions of Followers
"Has Consumed Only Tropical Fruits Like Durian for the Past 7 Years"

Janna Samsonova (39), a 'vegan influencer' who had adhered to an extreme plant-based diet consisting only of vegetables and fresh fruits for several years, was recently reported to have passed away.

According to foreign media including the New York Post on the 31st (local time), Samsonova, a Russian national with millions of followers on social networking services (SNS) such as TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, was declared dead last month on the 21st in Malaysia while traveling in Southeast Asia.

Acquaintances said her health condition appeared very poor just before her death, estimating that "she seemed to have starved to death."

One friend said, "When I met Samsonova in Sri Lanka a few months ago, she looked very exhausted, and lymph fluid was oozing from her swollen legs," adding, "People tried to send her home for treatment, but Samsonova ran away."

Later, a friend who stayed upstairs from Samsonova’s accommodation in Phuket, Thailand, said, "When I saw Samsonova again, it was chilling," and added, "I was afraid every morning that I would find her dead."

Family and fans denied it, but acquaintances suspect cause of death was 'health food'

Samsonova’s mother described her death as resembling 'cholera-like infection,' but the official cause has not yet been announced.

Fans of Samsonova reportedly believe the cause of death was related to chemical components in the foods she consumed rather than the extreme diet, according to the media.

However, acquaintances viewed her death as a result of obsession with 'health food.'

One friend said, "Even if you are not a doctor, it is easy to see what kind of outcome such a diet can produce," adding, "It may sound harsh, but we could only watch as her body was tortured by foolishness."

Consuming raw vegetables can help with weight loss, improve heart disease, and prevent diabetes. However, the media pointed out that it carries risks of malnutrition such as calcium and vitamin D deficiency. There is also an increased possibility of anemia, nervous system damage, and infertility.

Meanwhile, last year in Florida, USA, Sheila O'Leary was sentenced to life imprisonment for causing the death of her 18-month-old son by feeding him only small amounts of fruits and vegetables.

Previously, Samsonova began vegetarianism because she believed that the reason people around her looked older than their actual age was due to 'junk food,' and she promoted a 'raw plant-based diet' through SNS.

For the past four years, she said, "I maintain a completely raw vegan food diet," and "I only consume fruits, sunflower sprouts, fruit smoothies, and juices."

In fact, one acquaintance testified that Samsonova had eaten only tropical fruits such as jackfruit (kanun) and durian for the past seven years.

Samsonova also emphasized, "My body and mind are changing every day," and "I love the new me and will never go back to my old habits."
