Hancom is showing strong performance. As anticipation grows for Naver's 'HyperCLOVA X,' scheduled to be unveiled on the 24th, Hancom is also gaining attention.
As of 9:48 AM on the 1st, Hancom was trading at 13,520 KRW, up 320 KRW (2.42%) compared to the previous trading day.
Jongseon Park, a researcher at Eugene Investment & Securities, explained, "HyperCLOVA X plans to introduce generative AI and provide educational and public document creation services using AI editors. In March, they already established a strategic partnership with Naver Cloud."
He added, "Going forward, they plan to advance as a next-generation document platform applying super-large AI technology, building specialized AI services required in various fields such as enterprise and finance."
Hancom will actively promote AI-based web editors and overseas business through a physical division. They will spin off the web office business division to establish a new subsidiary, 'Hancom AI Web Editor.' Park said, "They have references from supplying to AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Russian portal company Mail.ru. Based on proven technology and experience, they plan to advance and diversify AI-based web editor products in the global market."
He continued, "They plan to secure funds through domestic and overseas investment attraction and actively pursue overseas expansion based on this, which is a positive factor for mid- to long-term growth."
Hancom stated that they are strengthening their business based on AI and will continue research such as generative AI. They introduced the web office business as a future growth engine. Like Microsoft's (MS) Copilot, they are considering ways to embed generative AI into their software to assist users in writing proposals or creating charts.
The related industry emphasizes the necessity of domestic super-large AI. They expect active government support, noting that relying on foreign AI could cause more harm than good due to security concerns. In the web office market, Hancom faces fierce challenges from foreign office programs. Going forward, the difference between having or not having native AI and web office in the domestic market will become stark.
Hancom launched a new product, 'Hancom Wordian,' in 2000. It caused an explosive response, selling 65,000 copies within a month. At the same time, Microsoft Korea discounted 'Office 2000' by more than 80%, marking the beginning of the 'Office War.'
