Mapo-gu Ranks First Among Autonomous Districts in Female Population Ratio, 37% of Residents in Their 30s and 40s... Supports Career-Interrupted Women in Employment and Entrepreneurship
Applications Accepted Online and In-Person via Mapo-gu Employment Welfare Support Center... First 20 Applicants Until August 23
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is accepting applications for training until August 23 and will conduct a professional organizer training program at the Mapo Women’s Companion Center from August 28 to September 25.
A “professional organizer” refers to an expert who enhances quality of life by providing efficient organizing (storage) systems. Organizing and storage activities, once considered unpaid household chores performed by women, have emerged as a new occupation due to increased service demand from the rise of single-person households and dual-income families in modern society.
According to the “2021 Mapo-gu Women’s Policy Awareness Survey,” professional organizers are regarded as flexible jobs with adaptable working hours and are especially popular among women facing difficulties re-entering the workforce after career interruptions.
Based on the fact that Mapo-gu has the highest female population ratio among Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts and that residents in their 30s and 40s?an age group with many career interruptions?make up 36.8%, the district established a plan for supporting women’s employment and entrepreneurship in January and signed a business agreement in June with the Korea Professional Organizers Association (President Jung Kyung-ja) to foster professional organizers and create jobs.
The training will be held in collaboration between the Korea Professional Organizers Association and the Mapo-gu Employment Welfare Support Center (Director Hong Jin-ju) at the Mapo Women’s Companion Center every Monday for five sessions from August 28 to September 25.
The curriculum includes ▲ concepts and necessity of organizing and storage ▲ efficient organizing and storage methods for residential spaces such as living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms ▲ theory and practical methods related to recycling DIY.
A district official stated, “Trainees who complete the course will have the opportunity to take the exam to obtain the Level 2 Professional Organizer certification, so we encourage many interested residents to apply.”
Applications can be submitted online via the Mapo-gu Employment Welfare Center website (QR code) or in person until August 23. Detailed information is also available on the Mapo-gu Office website and the Mapo Women’s Companion Center website.
Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “Through this project, we hope to foster the awareness that household labor experience can become a valuable asset generating income and that women can newly enter society as professional organizers. With Mapo-gu’s strength as a three-time consecutive Women-Friendly City certified district, we will actively discover and promote various projects to support residents struggling with career interruptions in their social advancement.”
