19 Dogs Rescued from Illegal Breeding Farm
Beaten Until the Stick Bent
Dogs that were about to be brutally slaughtered in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, were rescued.
The animal rights organization CARE announced on the 30th that they raided a dog farm operating in the Saneung-ri area of Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province on the 18th and rescued 19 dogs that were facing slaughter. The couple running the farm was urgently arrested by the police at the scene on charges of violating the Animal Welfare Act.
According to the current Animal Welfare Act, acts such as neglecting dogs under care without proper protection and treatment causing death, or breeding and selling dogs without permission, can be punished by up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.
Regarding this, CARE shared on their official Instagram, "There were (metal) baseball bats in the slaughterhouse," and added, "All the bats were bent and had teeth marks from being used for beating," revealing the horrific conditions of the slaughterhouse.
They continued, "The dogs were beaten with sticks during the process of being brought in," and explained, "Inside the slaughterhouse, a dog that appeared to have been beaten had severely swollen eyes as if hit hard."
They also stated, "The slaughterhouse located in Saneung, Namyangju, has been operating for 40 years," and added, "Just before the raid, six dogs had already died instantly."
Kim Young-ho, CEO of CARE, said, "If dog slaughter or its methods are illegal, then ordering dog meat is also illegal," and added, "We will strive to ensure that not only slaughter but also the so-called Bosintang preparation and dog breeding practices that lead to the death of dogs are all punishable."
