CUBox announced on the 31st that it won the bid for the "AI Training Data Construction Project (Object Grasping and Robot Behavior Data)" hosted by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) on the 27th.
The total project scale is 3.4 billion KRW (excluding private sector contributions). CUBox, as the lead organization, secured 1.55 billion KRW of this amount. The project period is until the end of this year. The CUBox consortium will build a total of 650,000 robot behavior data, including 300,000 robot behavior images and 350,000 product images in the fields of 3D object grasping and small object grasping.
A company representative said, "We received great acclaim for unveiling the order-picking robot for the first time at KOFAS2023 (Manufacturing Automation Technology Exhibition) held in Changwon last June, and by winning this data construction project as the lead company, we have proven the competitiveness of our AI vision recognition robot technology," adding, "It is significant in that the synergy between the core R&D groups, AI Lab and Robot Research Institute, is beginning in earnest."
In March 2022, CUBox established a Robot Research Institute centered on PhDs from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), expanding the scope of AI vision recognition technology to robot development. The first target market is logistics. Among the rapidly increasing logistics center tasks such as same-day delivery and dawn delivery, small packaging of multi-variety irregular objects relies entirely on human hands, creating a strong demand for robots that can automate this process.
CUBox is developing an AI order-picking robot, focusing on AI vision recognition technology, robot control, and gripper manufacturing. In April, it won the "Demand-tailored Service Robot Development and Distribution Project" promoted by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement. Accordingly, CUBox plans to gradually develop and supply order-picking robots for logistics centers to FN Fulfillment, a subsidiary of the food tech company Foodnamu, from this year until November 2024.
