Jongno-gu Intensifies Crackdown on Prize Giveaways at Game Centers

Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) is rolling up its sleeves to eradicate illegal gambling activities in game businesses, which have become a social issue.

The district will conduct intensive inspections targeting game providing businesses in the area from August to December to crack down on illegal operations.

This measure comes in response to the recent increase in reports and detections of related violations, and prior to the full-scale crackdown, guidance inspections are being conducted from the 24th to the 31st of this month.

For the inspections, the Tourism Division and the Safe City Division have formed a joint inspection team, visiting general game providing businesses and adult PC rooms in the area one by one to thoroughly inform business operators about compliance requirements and punishment standards for gambling-related activities.

The full-scale crackdown will begin in August. The main inspection items include prize provision inside game rooms, money exchange activities, and whether one person is using two machines.

The district plans to strongly respond by detecting various illegal activities through the crackdown and taking measures such as administrative sanctions or police reports.

Additionally, in cooperation with related organizations such as the police and the Game Rating and Administration Committee, the district will continuously conduct regular and occasional inspections of illegal gambling operations in game providing businesses and strive to foster a healthy gaming culture.

Jongno-gu stated, “We will focus on educating business operators about compliance with game-related laws, facility standards, and other requirements until the end of July, ensuring they are well informed,” adding, “After the education period ends, we will proceed with full-scale inspections starting in August and contribute to eradicating illegal activities.”
