On the 30th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) at 6 p.m., following the issuance of heavy rain warnings centered around Seoul, Daejeon, Sejong, Gyeonggi, and Chungnam. The crisis alert level was also raised from 'Interest' to 'Caution.'
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, due to atmospheric instability, showers are expected until tonight in the central region, Jeolla area, Daegu, Gyeongbuk, inland Gyeongnam, and Jeju Island. Especially, heavy rain is anticipated in the central region and Jeolla area until the evening hours.
The CDSCH instructed related agencies to strengthen surveillance of high-risk areas and, if necessary, promptly evacuate residents, warning that the ground has weakened due to rainfall during the monsoon period, increasing the risk of landslides and slope collapses even with small amounts of precipitation. They emphasized thorough preparation against landslides and soil runoff damage in areas where strong tremors were observed due to the earthquake in Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk, the previous day.
They also advised to quickly evacuate campers and restrict access in case of sudden water level rises caused by rainfall in mountainous valleys and upstream river areas. In the event of flooding in low-lying facilities such as semi-basements and underground underpasses due to heavy rain in a short period, immediate control and evacuation measures should be implemented.
The head of the CDSCH (Minister of the Interior and Safety, Sang-min Lee) urged, "We ask the public to actively cooperate by following the guidance when receiving disaster messages or hearing village broadcasts during dangerous situations."
