Democratic Party of Korea Strongly Protests 'Habitual Fake News Announcements'

Seoul Metropolitan Council Strongly Regrets the Democratic Party's Announcement on the 29th

"There is No Ruling or Opposition in Education... Stop the Baseless Political Attacks and Work Together to Protect Teachers' Rights and Public Education"

Democratic Party of Korea Strongly Protests 'Habitual Fake News Announcements' Kim Hyun-ki, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council

The Seoul Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim Hyun-gi) strongly protested the Democratic Party's habitual release of fake news.

Earlier, on the 29th, the Democratic Party claimed that "the People Power Party obstructed the passage of the Teachers' Rights Protection Ordinance in the Seoul Metropolitan Council."

However, this claim was refuted as completely untrue. The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Education Committee discussed the ordinance proposal for the protection of educational activities submitted by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in March.

During the Education Committee meeting, members from both the People Power Party and the Democratic Party judged that "there are considerable parts of the ordinance that need supplementation and further review is necessary," and thus postponed its passage.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's School Human Rights Committee also issued a recommendation to reconsider this ordinance.

After the ordinance's passage was postponed, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education made no additional efforts to pass the ordinance.

The council is not a rubber stamp that simply approves ordinances submitted by the education office. The fact that all ruling and opposition members at the time unanimously requested revisions can be immediately confirmed by inquiring with the Democratic Party Seoul council members.

Nevertheless, the Democratic Party brazenly spread false information as if the People Power Party in the Seoul Metropolitan Council opposed the protection of teachers' rights.

The Seoul Metropolitan Council expressed strong regret to the Democratic Party for their habitual 'fake news production' habit appearing even in the education sector, which directly concerns our children.

Furthermore, the Democratic Party's claim that 'the People Power Party opposed the automatic recording budget' is also a malicious political attack far from the truth. This can be immediately verified by reviewing the budget review process at the time.

On the 29th, when the Democratic Party was releasing fake news, tens of thousands of teachers nationwide voluntarily gathered in downtown Seoul despite the heatwave, crying out and condemning the tragic reality of collapsing teachers' rights and public education.

Kim Hyun-gi, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, stated, "There is no ruling or opposition in education," and urged, "I call on everyone to listen to the earnest voices of teachers in the field, even if only one percent of the passion spent on producing fake news and baseless political attacks is devoted to protecting teachers' rights and public education, and to work together to save teachers' rights and safeguard public education."
