On the 29th at around 7:07 PM, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) to quickly assess the damage and take emergency measures if necessary, following a magnitude 3.5 earthquake that occurred 17 km north of Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk (Cheoncheon-myeon).
At the same time, the crisis alert was raised to the 'Warning' level. Earthquake crisis alerts are issued in the order of Interest - Caution - Warning - Serious.
According to the Fire Agency on the same day, a total of 39 reports of felt tremors were received by 7:50 PM, including 30 from Jeonbuk, 1 from Jeonnam, 1 from Chungbuk, 4 from Gyeongbuk, 2 from Gyeongnam, and 1 from Busan. Fortunately, no damage has been reported so far.
The instrumental intensity, which indicates the level of shaking felt in each region, was highest in Jeonbuk where the earthquake occurred, reaching a maximum of 5. This means that most people felt the tremors.
In Gyeongnam, Chungnam, and Chungbuk, the instrumental intensity was 3, while in Gyeongbuk, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Jeonnam it was 2. An instrumental intensity of 3 means 'people indoors, especially on upper floors of buildings, feel significant shaking and stationary cars shake slightly,' and 2 means 'few people in quiet conditions or on upper floors of buildings feel shaking.'
