"Drowned While Searching for Tubes of Children Swept Away..." 40s Man Drowns in Tongyeong Sea

"Went to get children's tubes during water play"
Transferred to hospital after CPR but ultimately died

A man in his 40s drowned while trying to retrieve a drifting tube in the sea off Tongyeong, Gyeongnam. The Coast Guard stated that the deceased, Mr. A, appears to have gotten into trouble after entering the sea to get a child's tube that had drifted away.

On the 29th at around 9:32 a.m., the Tongyeong Coast Guard received a report of a person drowning in the sea off Sinjeon-ri, Sanyang-eup, Tongyeong City, and dispatched a rescue team.

The Coast Guard rescued Mr. A, who was being held by an acquaintance in the sea, onto a rescue boat and performed CPR while transporting him to shore. Mr. A was taken to a hospital by a 119 ambulance but ultimately passed away.

The Coast Guard stated, "It appears that Mr. A got into trouble after going to retrieve a drifting tube while playing in the water with children," and added, "We are investigating the circumstances of the accident based on statements from his party and witnesses."

With the long rainy season over and the onset of intense heat, more people are visiting beaches for summer vacations. The East Coast, which recorded a temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius and is experiencing the hottest heatwave in 31 years, along with beaches nationwide, are crowded with vacationers.

To prevent water-related accidents, caution is needed regarding rip currents, which are waves that suddenly rush back to the open sea, and sudden deep areas called "gaetgorang," known as underwater mines. It is important to carefully observe sea conditions, avoid dangerous areas in advance, and actively follow the instructions of safety personnel.
