Achieving Results from Diligent Pledge Fulfillment and Excellent Policy Implementation in the First Year of the 8th Elected Term
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 27th that it received the Grand Prize in the 'Job Creation and Employment Improvement' category at the 13th National Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition, held for local government heads nationwide during the 8th elected term.
Hosted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters, this competition gathers outstanding pledge and policy cases from mayors, county governors, and district heads across the country to share solutions to regional issues and future values. It is held annually in years without local elections and has responded to the spirit of the times by building new models of local democracy and strengthening local government policy capabilities.
This year’s competition, under the slogan “Presenting Practical Action Models and Policy Alternatives in the Pandemic and New Normal Era,” invited excellent pledge cases across seven categories: job creation and employment improvement, inequality reduction, response to demographic changes, climate environment, digital innovation leadership, regional culture revitalization, and community strengthening. After a fierce contest among 172 outstanding cases from 155 local governments that passed the first document screening, a total of 92 cases were awarded, making the competition more intense than ever.
Dongdaemun-gu received high praise for actively promoting 'Dongdaemun Naeil Jabgo (Job go),' a customized job support project tailored to different generations including youth, women, and middle-aged groups, thereby establishing a dense social job safety net.
In particular, the district creatively addressed the often difficult and rigid job-seeking issues for each generation by parodying the global film Parasite. The characters?job seekers (Nadapdap), freelancers (Napeuri), career-interrupted women (I-gyeongdan), and middle-aged job seekers (Napillyo)?participate in various support programs operated by Dongdaemun-gu, such as ▲Youth Employment Qualification Activity Expenses ▲Generation-Integrated Successful Startup Support Project ▲DDM Youth Startup Center ‘Unicorn’ ▲Maternity and Newborn Care Specialist Training ▲Elementary Care Specialist Training ▲Self-Support Work Project CU Convenience Store. This engaging video presentation of the job search process won enthusiastic approval from the judging panel.
Dongdaemun-gu has a history of winning awards at the Manifesto Best Practice Competition, including the Grand Prize in the 'Integrity' category in 2015, the Grand Prize in the 'Resident Communication' category in 2016, Excellence Awards in the 'Regional Culture Revitalization' category in 2017 and 2019, and the Grand Prize in the 'Super-Aging Response' category in 2020.
Mayor Lee Pil-hyung of Dongdaemun-gu stated, “We are very pleased that our district’s case won the Grand Prize at a competition where excellent pledge fulfillment cases from across the country gathered and competed on the first anniversary of the 8th elected term.” He added, “We will continue to reflect deeply on whether the pledge fulfillment policies we pursue truly meet residents’ needs and whether they resonate with residents’ voices, and we will strive tirelessly to create a Dongdaemun-gu that opens happiness together with its citizens.”
