Korea Forest Protection Association Jeonnam Council Launches 'Mountain Area Cleanup Campaign'

A 'jupging' (picking up trash + jogging) event was held around Gamagol Ecological Park in Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do.

The Korea Forest Protection Association Jeonnam Council and Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters held a 'Mountain Area Cleanup Activity and Carbon Neutrality Practice Campaign' on the 29th around Gamagol Ecological Park.

The event is held monthly with the intention of realizing small daily practices to create a sustainable environment.

About 50 people attended, including Jo Han-gyu, president of the Forest Protection Association Jeonnam Council, Lee Sang-min, head of Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, and Shin Young-il, director of the headquarters.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., they walked about 1.3 km from the entrance of Gamagol Ecological Park to Yongso Waterfall, picking up trash along the way.

Holding a 50ℓ bag and tongs in one hand, they walked along the mountain trail, collecting discarded empty water bottles, coffee cans, plastic cups, and more one by one.

Various trash scattered around spoiled the scenery, but as the volunteers passed by, the area soon became clean. The nature, dyed green, was revived.

Seol Jae-gi (65) said, "Participating in this volunteer activity makes me think about the forest," and suggested, "It would be good to also put name tags on trees so that people do not treat the forest carelessly and can become more familiar with it."

Kang Won-in (53, female) said, "ESG activities are a global topic," and added, "I participated to rethink and become more familiar with nature that benefits us."

Next month, a campaign for environmental cleanup will be held at Gwanbangcheon in Damyang, hosted by the Forest Protection Association Jeonnam Council.
