and Pilot Introduction of Sinkhole Prevention Ground Subsidence Measurement Device Recognized for Resident Safety Policies
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) received the Excellence Award in the ‘Digital Innovation’ category at the 2023 National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition hosted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters.
In this competition, 155 basic local governments nationwide submitted a total of 364 policy cases across 7 categories as best practices.
Geumcheon-gu presented under the theme ‘Enjoy a Livable City with Smart Technology,’ gaining recognition for the excellence of its resident-centered innovative policies that residents can directly experience in their daily lives.
Geumcheon-gu is promoting various policies that are practically needed by residents with the goal of ‘Building a Safe City for Residents, Smart Geumcheon.’
First, to protect children safely from traffic accidents caused by smartphone use while walking, 120 smartphone control devices were installed along a 1.3 km route to and from Seoul Sinhung Elementary School, designating it as a safety zone. This pilot program is being operated with parental participation and is planned to expand to 5 schools next year.
Additionally, an intelligent childcare robot is being developed that enables language learning play through English fairy tales and traditional children’s songs, and allows for eye contact with children, everyday conversations, and emotional care through empathy.
Furthermore, to prevent sinkholes around public building construction sites, a pilot program has been introduced to monitor ground subsidence using intelligent Internet of Things (AIoT)-based measurement technology, resulting in positive evaluations for policies that combine safety and technology.
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, “I am pleased to receive positive recognition for our efforts on behalf of residents,” and added, “We will continue to accelerate innovative policy implementation to keep our promises to residents and ensure they can live safer lives.”
