Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that the operation of the ‘Youth Challenge Support Project,’ which started in April this year to support the labor market participation of youth who have given up job searching, is progressing smoothly.
The ‘Youth Challenge Support Project,’ selected through a public contest hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and conducted for the first time this year, is a project that provides customized programs to help youth who have given up job searching regain confidence and boost their motivation to seek employment, thereby supporting their participation in economic activities and return to the labor market.
The Youth Challenge Support Project is divided into a 1-month short-term program ‘Challenge (We-ro)’ 1st and 2nd sessions, which include basic counseling, case management such as health and daily life, confidence recovery, career exploration, and employment competency enhancement programs, and a 5-month long-term program ‘Challenge+ (The We-ro)’ 1st and 2nd sessions, which add an advanced course including close counseling and specialized programs to the existing short-term program. These are operated at the Seoul Youth Center Dongdaemun Orang.
The district started operating the 1st session of ‘Challenge’ in April this year, with all 18 participants completing the program. Among them, 4 were linked to the National Employment Support System, and 2 succeeded in finding employment, providing customized follow-up management. Currently, since June, the long-term program ‘Challenge+’ 1st and 2nd sessions are being operated, with all 53 participants actively participating in the program.
On the 27th, as part of the ‘Challenge+’ employment competency enhancement program, Dongdaemun District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung participated as a lecturer in the ‘Meeting with Incumbents.’ Through an OX debate on multi-job holders and a special lecture titled ‘Living as a Multi-job Holder,’ participants had a free communication time with the district mayor, who has experienced various occupations such as public official, writer, and civil servant.
District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, “I hope that today’s meeting with incumbents will be an opportunity for participating youth to gain confidence that they can do it too,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote various projects that support the successful social advancement of youth who have given up job searching and embrace the lives of young people to realize a Dongdaemun-gu where young people gather.”
On the 27th, Dongdaemun-gu received the grand prize in the job and employment improvement category at the 13th National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition held at the National Suncheon University. The award recognized the district’s high evaluation for actively promoting generation-specific customized job support projects such as youth employment qualification acquisition activity expenses, generation-convergence type successful start-up support projects, and training of postpartum newborn care experts, thereby establishing a social job safety net.
