Lee Jae-myung and Lee Nak-yeon to Have Dinner Meeting in Jongno on the Afternoon of the 28th
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and former leader Lee Nak-yeon had a dinner meeting for about two hours on the 28th at a restaurant in Jongno-gu, Seoul. After being postponed twice due to nationwide heavy rain damage, the two reportedly agreed that "we must win the general election to stop the reckless actions of the Yoon Seok-yeol government."
Kwon Chil-seung, senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a written briefing that Lee Jae-myung presented a bouquet to welcome Lee Nak-yeon's return and inquired about his well-being, to which Lee Nak-yeon responded, "Thank you for your hard work leading the party all this time."
The two reportedly criticized, saying, "The Democratic Party must win the general election to stop the reckless actions of the Yoon government and the misfortune of the Republic of Korea," and "President Yoon has no interest whatsoever in the lives of the people or the future of the country."
Lee Jae-myung reportedly said, "For victory in the general election, party unity is most important, and it is necessary to lead the party well to prevent division," and asked Lee Nak-yeon to "help a lot." In response, Lee Nak-yeon advised, "Bold innovation is necessary to make the Democratic Party the best it can be, and through innovation, we must unite and regain the trust of the people."
Lee Nak-yeon also emphasized that there should be no division within the Democratic Party. He said, "The Democratic Party's innovation must begin with restoring morality and democracy," and "The Democratic Party must have a sense of crisis now and immediately stop the language of division within the party."
Earlier, Lee Jae-myung and Lee Nak-yeon had planned to meet on the 11th, but the schedule was postponed to the 19th due to heavy rain. However, as flood damage from heavy rain continued nationwide, the schedule was postponed again.
Meanwhile, after Lee Nak-yeon returned from the United States on the 24th of last month, he visited the graves of former Presidents Kim Dae-jung and the late Roh Moo-hyun and met with former President Moon Jae-in, but news of a meeting with Lee Jae-myung did not surface, causing some controversy. Lee Nak-yeon and Lee Jae-myung had previously competed in last year's presidential primary.
