Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Soo-hee Rolls Up Her Sleeves for Street Cleanup at Godeokcheon on the 27th
On the 27th, Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, visited Sangil 2-dong and personally cleaned trash from stormwater drains as part of the ‘Clean Day’ large-scale cleanup conducted throughout Gangdong-gu.
Gangdong-gu designates the fourth Thursday of every month as ‘Gangdong Clean Day’ to maintain back streets and areas vulnerable to illegal dumping. This event saw participation from over 80 people, including the mayor, the Sangil 2-dong community leaders’ council, representatives of residents from Godeok Lien Park Complex 3, various professional organizations, local residents, environmental officers, and employees of the community service centers. They walked around Godeokcheon and the Godeok-Gangil public housing district, collecting trash and removing illegal advertisements.
In particular, to prevent road flooding caused by stormwater backflow due to accumulated cigarette butts, fallen leaves, and other debris in the stormwater drains during summer heavy rains or typhoons, the cleanup focused intensively on the interiors of the stormwater drains.
Mayor Lee Soo-hee said, “I am grateful that despite the early hour this morning, over 600 residents participated in cleaning various parts of Gangdong-gu and joined Clean Day. Thanks to the residents’ voluntary leadership, Gangdong-gu has become cleaner and more pleasant, and I expect this will also help prevent road flooding during the summer season.”
