Director of Owol Eomeoni House Cleared of Allegations of Detaining 5·18 Victims' Families

Kim Hyung-mi, director of the May Mothers' House, who was suspected of detaining and injuring a bereaved family member of a victim of the May 18 Democratic Movement, was cleared of charges.

On the 28th, the Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced that they had closed the case against Director Kim, who was reported for detaining and assaulting a bereaved family member A of the May 18 Democratic Movement victims, without sending it to the prosecution.

The reason given was a lack of evidence and that the act did not constitute a crime under the law.

Director Kim was previously investigated by the police on suspicion of causing injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment by hugging A during opposition to the Special Forces Veterans Association's visit to the May 18 cemetery.

There was also an allegation that in February, Director Kim detained A to prevent participation in the Special Forces Veterans Association's 'Joint National Declaration Event.'

The police, who received the complaint, judged that A voluntarily got into Director Kim's car and that the act was intended as restraint rather than assault, concluding there was no charge.
