The Korea Communications Commission announced that Standing Commissioner Lee Sang-in visited the Pyeongchon Mega Center, one of LG Uplus's Internet Data Centers (IDC), on the 28th to inspect disaster response plans for situations such as floods and fires.
Internet Data Centers are critical information and communication infrastructure where the scale of damage can be very large in the event of flooding or power outages. The Pyeongchon Mega Center is located in the heart of the Seoul metropolitan area and provides services to internet and financial companies based in Gangnam, Pangyo, and Gasan. Since its establishment in 2015, it is preparing to complete a second center in the third quarter of this year to meet the rapidly increasing data demand.
Standing Commissioner Lee Sang-in said on site, "When data centers experience failures due to flooding, fire, earthquakes, or power outages, citizens suffer damage and inconvenience across a wide range of areas including messenger services, shopping, and finance," and urged, "Please actively implement disaster preparedness plans to ensure stable and uninterrupted service provision."
