Democratic Party Submission at Previous Day's Plenary
No Legal Violations Found, Ministry of Land Also Disclosed All Data
Taking Citizens Hostage for Political Gain
Yoon Jae-ok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized on the 28th the Democratic Party of Korea's submission of a request for a state audit investigation into the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway special treatment allegations to the National Assembly, calling it "an intention to turn the state audit investigation into a 'fake news promotion stage'."
At the floor leaders' meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Yoon said, "No legal violations have been revealed, and all materials regarding the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway project have already been disclosed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, yet absurdly, the Democratic Party submitted a request for a state audit investigation."
The Democratic Party submitted the request for a state audit investigation related to the Yangpyeong Expressway at the plenary session of the National Assembly held the previous day. Even if the ruling party does not agree, the opposition party can appoint state audit committee members unilaterally and proceed with the investigation. The ruling party opposes the state audit investigation, emphasizing that the suspicions can be resolved at the standing committee level. Yoon criticized, "Holding a state audit investigation based on fake news to fabricate nonexistent crimes is something unheard of in Korean political history."
He continued, "At the last full meeting of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, our party proposed not only to listen to the officials but also to invite experts involved in the project to provide an objective explanation of the entire process, but the Democratic Party refused." He added, "What is the reason? Officials can be pressured with predetermined answers to accuse special treatment or a gate, but coercive questioning does not work on civilian experts, so they are afraid that their baseless claims will be exposed."
Yoon said, "The Democratic Party, which is trying to drag the expressway project into a long-term state audit investigation to divert public attention from triple or quadruple judicial risks, is holding the people hostage for political gain." He emphasized, "Our party's position is clear: to promptly normalize the project through constructive discussions and build the optimal expressway based on economic efficiency and rationality."
