The Board of Audit and Inspection, which is investigating allegations of manipulation of housing price statistics during the Moon Jae-in administration, reportedly summoned former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi for questioning on the 27th. Former Blue House Chief of Policy Kim Sang-jo, who had previously undergone a face-to-face investigation, was also summoned once more on the same day.
The Board of Audit and Inspection is said to have detected evidence that Ministry of Land officials reported provisional statistics on housing price trends, which were shared internally only within the Korea Real Estate Board before being publicly announced, to the Blue House in advance.
Furthermore, the Board is reported to have identified signs that the Ministry of Land and the Real Estate Board deliberately distorted the survey by intentionally skewing the sample selection when investigating housing price trends. They also suspect that there was prior reporting and intervention not only in real estate statistics but also in income and employment statistics.
To verify this, the Board previously summoned three former Blue House Chiefs of Policy during the Moon Jae-in administration, including former Chiefs Jang Ha-sung and Kim Soo-hyun, for questioning. Former Statistics Chiefs Hwang Soo-kyung and Kang Shin-wook, former Senior Secretary for Jobs Hwang Deok-soon, and former Senior Secretary for Economic Affairs Hong Jang-pyo were also subjected to face-to-face investigations.
Having completed the investigation of key figures including former Minister Kim, the Board of Audit and Inspection is now preparing an audit report based on the findings and is expected to announce the results soon.
