Cell Biotech announced on the 27th that it has developed seven types of "Korean-origin probiotics" for the first time in Korea, which can increase the absorption rate of polymer proteins and even enhance muscle cell genes.
A Cell Biotech official explained the background of the development, saying, "Protein is a polymer substance that, if not broken down and absorbed in the small intestine, causes side effects such as diarrhea and abdominal pain and is excreted as is. The industry is continuously researching ways to reduce the molecular size of protein to target the 6 million health enthusiasts."
Cell Biotech focused its research not on the fragmentary method of reducing the size of the molecule itself but on creating an environment in the human body that facilitates absorption. Through research, they identified seven probiotics that create an environment in the small intestine and increase protein absorption rates: ▲CBT-LA1 (KCTC 11906BP) ▲CBT-LR5 (KCTC 12202BP) ▲CBT-LP3 (KCTC 10782BP) ▲CBT-ST3 (KCTC 11870BP) ▲CBT-BL3 (KCTC 11904BP) ▲CBT-BG7 (KCTC 12200BP) ▲ CBT-BF3 (KCTC 12199BP).
These probiotics, derived from kimchi and Koreans, were applied to four types of protein commonly used in protein supplements: ▲Isolated Soy Protein (ISP) ▲Milk Protein Isolate (MPI) ▲Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) ▲Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC). As a result, the polymer proteins were broken down into essential amino acids such as leucine, valine, and isoleucine (BCAA), and animal experiments confirmed that absorption rates increased by up to 422%. It was also demonstrated that gene expression related to muscle cell growth increased, while gene expression related to muscle cell atrophy decreased. The related research results were published in the June issue of the Journal of the Korean Society of Food and Nutrition Science.
Dr. Jeong Yusuk, head of the Microbiome Research Institute at Cell Biotech, said, "The probiotics used in the study are not a single strain but a complex of seven strains with diverse protein metabolism profiles, which break down into more amino acids and help human absorption. Through the Duolac and Duolab brands, we will introduce products utilizing these strains and do our best in research and development so that many consumers can experience the excellence of Korean-origin probiotics."
