Sold Out Early on TV Home Shopping... 'This Product' Sold Better Amid High Inflation and Heatwave

GS Shop's Airtight Container Sales Increase by About 110% Compared to Last Year
"More Customers Trying to Use Ingredients Freshly and Economically"

As the heatwave continues and unstable food ingredient prices overlap, more customers are seeking airtight containers.

According to GS Shop on the 27th, from April 1st to the 25th of this month, 119,000 sets of airtight containers for storing food, such as 'DebiMeyer', 'Tupperware', and 'Glasslock Hetbap Containers', were sold. Compared to 56,000 sets sold during the same period last year, sales increased by 113%. The number of customers who purchased airtight containers at least once also rose by 112% to a total of 104,000, compared to 49,000 last year, and total sales increased by more than 30% year-on-year.


The most popular product is the 'Glasslock Hetbap Container'. It is characterized by the ability to enjoy rice as if freshly cooked by simply opening the small steam hole on the lid and microwaving the rice stored frozen in the Hetbap container. Since its launch at the end of April this year, 58,000 sets have been sold over seven broadcasts. This product was released for people who cook rice and store it in portions in the freezer, and it has gained great popularity recently as more people cook rice at home due to high prices.


The best-selling product is the 'DebiMeyer Green Bag Green Box'. It is a functional storage container that maintains the freshness of vegetables and fruits. It was first introduced by GS Shop in September 2019, and by June of this year, about 10 million bags and containers have been sold, with sales reaching 55 billion won.


As demand for airtight containers increased, GS Shop launched 'Tupperware', which they spent a year preparing to introduce on home shopping, on the 9th (Sunday). Known as the epitome of airtight containers, it was selected by the American Fortune magazine as one of the '39 products that changed human history in the 20th century.' The launch broadcast sold out 4,000 sets of prepared stock early, 15 minutes before the end, living up to the reputation of 'Tupperware'.


On the 30th at 2:55 PM, a special broadcast celebrating the 5th anniversary of the 'DebiMeyer' launch will be held on TV home shopping. It will feature products including the three most popular large-capacity items. Lee Hyewon, MD of GS Shop's Life Value Team, explained, “Due to high prices and the early arrival of heat, especially as recent weather has affected crop yields causing unstable food ingredient prices, more customers are trying to store and use food and ingredients for a long time, which has greatly increased the demand for airtight containers.”
