Galaxy Z Series and Watch6·GalTab S9 Unveiled
Enhanced Product Completeness and Aesthetic Stability Achieved
Emphasizing Health and Environmental Values... Launching on the 11th of Next Month
Samsung Electronics' new Galaxy products unveiled on the 26th showcased craftsmanship and attention to detail in terms of design. They improved user inconveniences and enhanced aesthetic stability, raising the overall product completeness. However, there was a sense of disappointment as there were no clearly distinct or groundbreaking innovations that would surprise everyone compared to previous models.
No Tae-moon, President of Samsung Electronics MX Division, is introducing a new product at the 'Galaxy Unpacked' event held on the 26th at COEX, Samseong-dong, Seoul.
Improvement in the Folding Screen Area
The newly introduced 5th generation Galaxy Z series significantly improved the lifting and crease issues in the hinge area where the screen folds. The application of the waterdrop hinge stood out, allowing the screen to open neatly and lay flat completely. Thanks to this, the product's grip also improved considerably.
The Flip5 now allows users to access more functions even when the screen is closed. This is due to the application of the cover screen 'Flex Window,' which has been greatly enlarged compared to before. The diagonal length of the Flex Window, based on its width and height, is up to 86.1 mm. Even when the screen is closed, Samsung Pay can be used, music can be played through the media player, and real-time stock prices can be viewed via the Google Finance widget.
The Fold5's most attractive feature is that its thickness when folded is reduced by 2.4 mm and its weight by 10 g compared to its predecessor. Like the Flip5, there is no gap between the two screens, ensuring a firm contact that enhances unity and stability. It also received praise for including the popular note-taking application 'GoodNotes.' However, it was disappointing that the much-anticipated built-in S Pen feature was again not included.
Both Flip5 and Fold5 applied various recycled materials compared to previous models, showing efforts to protect the environment. Plastics recycled from waste PET bottles, which were not used before, and glass recycled from cullet generated during the manufacturing process were also applied. The Flip5 is priced at 1,399,200 KRW and 1,522,000 KRW for the 256GB and 512GB models, respectively. The Galaxy Z Fold5 is priced at 2,097,700 KRW, 2,218,700 KRW, and 2,460,700 KRW for the 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB models, respectively. It will be released domestically on the 11th of next month, with pre-orders running from the 1st to the 7th of next month.
Watch6 Emphasizes 'Sleep,' Tab S9 Highlights 'Water Resistance'
The Galaxy Watch6 added a high-resolution wide display and enhanced sleep management features but disappointed users by not including Samsung Pay payment functionality. It became possible to manage sleep comprehensively by analyzing five factors that make up the sleep score, such as total sleep time and sleep cycles. Tae-moon Roh, President of Samsung Electronics MX Division, said, "We expect the Watch6 series to serve as a partner that helps users form healthy habits in daily life."
The Watch6 series will also be released sequentially worldwide starting from the 11th of next month. Available colors include Graphite, Silver, and Gold. The Watch6 is priced between 329,000 KRW and 399,300 KRW depending on the model, while the Watch6 Classic ranges from 429,000 KRW to 499,400 KRW.
The Galaxy Tab S9 strengthened usability by being the first in the Galaxy Tab S series to feature IP68-rated water and dust resistance and Vision Booster. Vision Booster automatically adjusts display brightness, color, and contrast according to ambient lighting, making it easier to see the screen clearly outdoors. The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is priced between 1,598,300 KRW and 2,406,800 KRW depending on specifications, the Galaxy Tab S9+ ranges from 1,248,500 KRW to 1,637,900 KRW, and the Galaxy Tab S9 is priced between 998,800 KRW and 1,388,200 KRW.
Fast-Paced Tech YouTubers... What Are Their Reviews?
IT tech influencers and early adopters praised the improved design of the Galaxy Z but commonly mentioned the lack of points that could be called innovations. ITSub, who has 2.39 million subscribers, described the new product as "not a huge change but a model focused on refining subtle completeness." Many users agreed with comments such as "It came out with solid improvements" and "It feels like existing technologies were perfected rather than innovated."
A netizen who introduced themselves as an employee of Samsung SDI's small battery development department commented, "The Flip5 battery applies the stacking method developed over two years overseas," adding, "It is the result of hard work with seven nights of overnight shifts per week. Please look upon it favorably." They explained that the battery with the stacking method has advantages such as increased capacity and charging speed, reduced heat generation, and improved battery stability and lifespan.
Another tech YouTuber, 'Seoulrian,' evaluated the Fold5 by saying, "Rather than making noticeable hardware changes, it provided the large screen usability we expect from foldable smartphones while enhancing the completeness of existing products."
