According to The Australian, Patrick Conroy, Australia's Minister for Defence Industry, called Hanwha Defense on the same day to convey the intention to sign a contract to produce 129 infantry fighting vehicles 'Redback.'

The Australian reported that the contract is worth about 2.4 billion Australian dollars (approximately 2.0676 trillion won), and although Rheinmetall's bid was lower, Hanwha's Redback armored vehicle outperformed Rheinmetall's 'Lynx' armored vehicle in terms of performance.

Earlier, Australia announced its armored vehicle supply plan in September 2019 with the 'LAND 400 Phase 3 project.'

Rheinmetall's Lynx and Hanwha's Redback, which made it to the final selection, are the latest infantry fighting vehicles. They feature an 'active protection system' capable of detecting and neutralizing enemy anti-tank missile attacks in advance.

Hanwha Aerospace, the parent company of Hanwha Defense, signed an export contract for the K-9 self-propelled howitzer with Australia in December 2021 and is also building a state-of-the-art armored vehicle production facility (H-ACE) at Avalon Airport in Geelong, Australia.
