Listening to Teachers' Opinions After Elementary Teacher's Death
Meeting with Community Members and Less Experienced Teachers
Since the 'Seoi Elementary School Incident,' Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon have been continuing meetings with on-site teachers to listen to their difficulties.
On the afternoon of the 26th, Deputy Prime Minister Lee will hold a meeting with teachers who are members of the elementary school teachers' online community 'Indischool' at the Korea Educational Facilities Safety Institute in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
Deputy Prime Minister Lee plans to listen to the difficulties and support needs of teachers who are devoted to educational activities under challenging conditions exposed to indiscriminate child abuse reports and violence. Sixteen on-site teachers active in Indischool will participate in the meeting.
This is the third time Deputy Prime Minister Lee has held a meeting with on-site teachers since the incident where a teacher at Seoul Seoi Elementary School took their own life, following meetings on the 21st and 24th.
Deputy Prime Minister Lee stated, "The education sector will join forces to analyze the root causes of the problem, improve the system, and further seek ways to establish a culture of respect for teachers' authority in schools and society."
Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will also begin meetings with on-site teachers. On the following day, the 27th, Superintendent Cho will hold a meeting with early-career elementary school teachers. About 20 early-career elementary school teachers will attend this meeting. Early-career teachers are relatively inexperienced in the teaching profession, and this reflects the voices from the field that support to cope with various problems in schools is urgently needed.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that starting with the early-career elementary school teachers' meeting, it plans to sequentially hold meetings with middle and high school teachers, mid-career teachers, and regional meetings to directly communicate with on-site teachers.
