Professor Han Sang-wook of Ajou University School of Medicine's Department of Surgery has been appointed as the Vice President for Medical Affairs and Director of Ajou University Medical Center.
According to Ajou University Medical Center on the 26th, Professor Han will assume the position as the 16th Vice President for Medical Affairs and Director. His term will be for two years, from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2025.
Born in 1963, Professor Han is known as an expert in gastric cancer surgery. He is currently responsible for open surgery for gastric cancer as well as minimally invasive surgeries such as laparoscopic and robotic surgeries.

He graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1988 and has been working as a professor in the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Ajou University School of Medicine since 1996. He has held key positions including the first Deputy Director of Clinical Affairs, Director of Planning and Coordination, and Hospital Director. Externally, he currently serves as the Chairman of the Korean Gastric Cancer Association and Vice Chairman of the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
He has also served as President of the Korean Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons, President of the Korean Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery Research Society, the inaugural President of the Korean Society for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Surgery, and Vice President of the Korean Surgical Robotic Surgery Research Society.
