Full-scale operation begins on August 1 after a 5-month pilot operation of the center
Establishing a resident-led living culture activity base through space rental for performances, club meetings, etc.
Expanding opportunities for more Yangcheon residents to enjoy living culture by extending existing center hours
Expected to be a hub for living arts with club bands and mini concerts for residents
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that starting August 1, it will officially operate the ‘Yangcheon Living Culture Center’ to create a space where all residents can freely enjoy cultural and artistic activities such as performances, exhibitions, and club meetings in their daily lives.
Located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Yangcheon Culture Hall in Sinjeong-dong, the center was established to support resident-led programs and space rentals to promote proactive cultural and leisure activities and community revitalization among local residents. This distinguishes it from other cultural centers by moving away from passive participation centered on lessons to activities that residents actively create according to their desires.
The total area is 1,215.15㎡, consisting of a total of 11 practice rooms and community spaces.
The main internal facilities on the 3rd floor include ▲a dressing waiting room connected to the main hall waiting room of Yangcheon Culture Hall ▲a resident encounter space serving as a living culture community activity area and user resting place ▲small lecture rooms for various meetings, education, and club gatherings. On the 4th floor, there are ▲two Maru practice rooms equipped with soundproofing, mirrors, and instruments for dance, band, choir, and other practice ▲four individual practice rooms ▲and a multipurpose room.
During the approximately 5-month pilot operation period starting February 20, about 228 reservations were made, showing high resident usage. Especially, a user satisfaction survey conducted ahead of the official opening was carefully reviewed, and any shortcomings will be supplemented in the future.
One such improvement is extending the center’s operating hours to enhance convenience for residents. While the pilot period operated from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, after the official opening, hours will change to Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (2 hours per session), allowing more residents to use the center at their preferred times.
Additionally, with the provision of new rental spaces, the ‘Ordinance on the Installation and Operation of the Yangcheon-gu Culture Hall, Seoul Special City’ has been revised, and since the 14th, rental fees have been charged to center users. Rental applications can only be submitted online through the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation website → Living Culture Center → Rental Application menu. For more detailed information such as rental fees, please refer to the notices on the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation website or contact the Performance Culture Team.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “With the new opening of the Yangcheon Living Culture Center, it has been reborn as a resident-centered autonomous living culture and communication space,” and added, “We will also promote living culture projects so that this place will become a hub for local residents to recover vitality in their daily lives.”
