Gumi City Officials Visit Yecheon ... Support for Damage Recovery

Over 200 Employees Participate in 4-Day Flood Recovery Volunteer Work

Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province will send over 200 employees to Yecheon, which suffered significant damage from the recent heavy rains, to support recovery efforts for four days starting from the 25th.

Yecheon is the area that experienced the greatest damage nationwide due to landslides caused by the heavy rains. The employees worked hard to erase traces of damage by removing soil and debris that poured down from the mountains and collecting trash.

They also prepared the necessary equipment and supplies for flood recovery on their own to avoid placing any burden on the affected residents and local governments.

The city has experienced the pain of disaster situations firsthand through the hydrofluoric acid leak accident in 2012 and received help from various local governments. Since then, it has actively supported disaster areas such as the 2016 heavy rains in Ulleungdo, the Gyeongju earthquake, the Daegu Seomun Market fire, the 2017 Pohang earthquake, the 2019 Gangwon wildfires, the 2022 Uljin wildfires, and typhoons in Pohang.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “We are grateful that the prompt declaration of a special disaster zone has made government-level support for the affected areas possible,” adding, “We joined forces with our employees to share the pain, and we are willing to provide additional support if needed.”
