The Dong-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 25th that it held a policy forum on the 24th in the council's small conference room to enact the 'Barefoot Walking Activation and Support Ordinance.'
The forum was chaired by Chairman Kim Jae-sik and attended by about 30 people including members of the district council, Dong-gu Office, and representatives from the Barefoot Walking National Movement Headquarters.
Jung Hee-gon, CEO of 'Manbil-eun Cheongchun,' introduced the benefits of barefoot walking and policies and cases from other local governments to promote barefoot walking in his presentation.
Barefoot walking causes various friction between the soles of the feet and the ground, and these stimuli are transmitted to reflex zones, bringing beneficial effects throughout the body.
It is known to bring overall beneficial results, including reducing physical stress, activating the digestive system, stimulating brain activity, improving skin, and preventing aging.
Discussants (Vice Chairman Ahn Seung-moon of the Barefoot Walking National Movement Headquarters, Namwon Branch Chief Kim Young-sim of the Barefoot Walking National Movement Headquarters, and Advisor Yoon Kwang-jang of the National Democratic Movement Comrades Association) also shared their opinions and supported the creation of barefoot walking trails in Dong-gu, Gwangju.
Chairman Kim said, "If barefoot walking is activated in our Dong-gu, it will contribute to health promotion regardless of age or gender, including the elderly," adding, "Creating a healthy city is not a choice but a necessity, and our council will take the lead."
