Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will operate heatwave shelters even on public holidays from July 22 to the end of September.

To provide a cool resting space for heatwave-vulnerable groups, the district office cafeteria and the Gwangjin-gu Civil Defense Training Center have been opened as heatwave shelters, aiming to eliminate blind spots for heatwave damage even on days off.

The operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and residents can use the facilities when a heatwave warning is issued. The district office cafeteria operates on weekends and holidays except weekdays, while the Civil Defense Training Center operates daily regardless of the date until the end of September. Cool bottled water is also provided for residents exhausted by the heatwave.

In addition, the district operates 103 heatwave shelters including senior centers, community centers, and welfare centers, as well as 5 safe accommodations. Two smart shelters, 53 smart shade tents, and 3 cooling fog systems are also in operation. Additional street cleaning vehicles are deployed to mitigate urban heat islands and lower temperatures, making every effort to ensure a safe and cool summer.

Furthermore, to prevent heat-related illnesses during summer, the district has installed 'Gwangjin Bottled Water Stations' at three frequently used walking trails. Free bottled water is provided at the entrances of Ginkgo Valley, Jungnangcheon embankment path, and Gwangjin Supnaru Senior Park.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Heatwaves can become natural disasters that threaten the safety and lives of our residents. We will do our best to ensure that not only the heatwave-vulnerable groups but all residents can have a safe and healthy summer.”
