A Man in His 30s Caught Secretly Filming Women Using the Restroom, 'Again' During Trial

A man in his 30s, who was charged with attempted illegal filming in a women's restroom, was sentenced to prison and probation after committing the same crime while on trial.

According to the Criminal Division 3 of Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam on the 24th, Mr. A was prosecuted for illegally filming the bodies of women using the restroom in commercial buildings and other locations.

From 11:22 PM on March 26 to 12:06 AM the next day, over two days, he moved between three women's restrooms in buildings such as commercial complexes in Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, and illegally filmed five times.

It is known that he entered the restroom stall and secretly filmed by placing his cellphone under the partition next to him.

Mr. A was previously caught attempting the same crime in June last year in the women's restroom of a cafe in Seongsan-gu where he worked, and was on trial for attempted illegal filming.

The court sentenced Mr. A, who was charged with violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (filming and distribution using a camera, etc.), to 1 year and 2 months in prison with 3 years probation and a fine of 5 million won.

He was also ordered to undergo 1 year of probation, 80 hours of community service, and 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures.

The court stated, "The crime is serious as he secretly filmed multiple women’s bodies to satisfy sexual desire, and the responsibility is even heavier because he committed the crime again while on trial."

It added, "However, considering that he is reflecting on his wrongdoing, has no prior criminal record, has deposited a certain amount for the identified victims, and that his family and acquaintances have pledged to guide him," explaining the reasons for sentencing.
