The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency issued a disaster emergency 'Gapho' on the 23rd and 24th to prevent damage from heavy rain and took proactive measures.
Immediately after the heavy rain warning was issued on the 23rd, the head of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency held a command meeting to prepare for the heavy rain, and ▲conducted on-site inspections of vulnerable areas ▲upgraded the situation manager and expanded the operation of the situation room (increased personnel) ▲secured additional personnel for field deployment by organizing reserve units for the police mobile unit and each police station.
A total of 596 police officers were deployed to 154 vulnerable locations, including underground passages at risk of flooding, areas prone to landslides, steep slopes, retaining walls, and other vulnerable sites.
In particular, upon receiving notification from the local government that the water level near Jangnokgyo Bridge in Pyeong-dong, Gwangsan-gu was high, approximately 100 officers were quickly deployed to assist 158 nearby residents in safely evacuating to temporary shelters.
Im Yong-hwan, head of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency, stated, “In the event of a disaster, we will mobilize the maximum number of personnel and equipment to ensure that not a single casualty occurs in Gwangju, responding proactively and aggressively,” expressing the firm commitment of the Gwangju police to disaster response.
