Kim Gyun-ho, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, proposed the "ESG Management Support Ordinance" during the 313th extraordinary session, which was approved as originally proposed at the standing committee (Planning and General Affairs Committee) meeting.
ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance, which are non-financial factors of a company. It can be defined as pursuing sustainable development through eco-friendly and socially responsible management and transparent governance from a long-term perspective.
The ordinance includes contents related to supporting and spreading ESG management for small and medium-sized enterprises and public institutions in Seo-gu, such as ▲establishing promotion plans ▲conducting surveys and providing support to companies ▲establishing and organizing committees ▲building reward and cooperation systems.
Councilor Kim Gyun-ho stated on the 24th, "ESG management is a management perspective that values non-financial performance related to environment, society, and transparent governance. It is a nationwide trend and also important for sustainable development."
He added, "Through this ordinance, a foundation has been established to support necessary matters, including a survey on the current status of ESG-related issues required by small and medium-sized enterprises and public institutions in Seo-gu."
