Dongdaemun-gu 'Peaceful Unification Art Exhibition' Grand Prize Awarded to Ryu Yeonji

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that on the morning of the 22nd at 10 a.m., the 2nd 'Peaceful Unification Art Contest' award ceremony, organized by the Dongdaemun-gu Council of the National Unification Advisory Council (Chairman Lee Young-seop), was held in the multipurpose auditorium on the 2nd floor of the district office.


This contest, held in June with the themes of 'Peace' and 'Unification' targeting the future generation (ages 5 to high school students), received a total of 502 art submissions over about a month.


On the 4th, a judging panel composed of art experts was convened to evaluate the works.


At this award ceremony, awards were presented to a total of 59 recipients, including 1 Grand Prize (Presidential Award), 1 Excellence Award, 3 Outstanding Awards, 3 Dongdaemun-gu Mayor’s Awards as main prizes, 25 Encouragement Awards (Peace Awards), 2 Special Selections (Unification Awards), and 2 Honorable Mentions (Wish Awards).


The Grand Prize was awarded to Ryu Yeon-ji (Hwigyeong Girls' High School), the Excellence Award to Lee Chae-young (Dapsimni Elementary School), the Outstanding Awards to Park Jung-woo (Seokgye Elementary School), Son Woo-rim (Anpyeong Elementary School), and Jeon Yoon-seo (Sungin Middle School), and the Dongdaemun-gu Mayor’s Awards to Kang Ye-seo (Gamil Elementary School), Kim Min-joo (Suam Elementary School), and Lee Yoon-seul (Eunseok Elementary School).


The ceremony was attended by 150 people including awardees and their families, as well as Lee Young-seop, Chairman of the Dongdaemun-gu Council of the National Unification Advisory Council, Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Lee Tae-in, Chairperson of Dongdaemun-gu Council, executives and advisory members of the National Unification Advisory Council, who encouraged the awardees.


The 300 winning works will be exhibited at the Art Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Dongdaemun-gu Office from the 18th to the 23rd to foster consensus on peaceful unification.


Mayor Lee Pil-hyung of Dongdaemun-gu said, “I sincerely congratulate all the winners of this art contest and hope that you, the future leaders, will continue to take great interest in unification.”


The Dongdaemun-gu Council of the National Unification Advisory Council is a constitutional body that advises and recommends to the President on the establishment and promotion of democratic peaceful unification policies, actively conducting various educational programs and projects related to North Korean defectors to foster consensus on unification.
