Support for 384 Single Women and Single-Parent Households
Creating Safe Residential Environments Including Crime Prevention
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk is receiving great response for its new project this year, the ‘Our Home Bodyguard Dispatch Project,’ aimed at creating a safe residential environment for female households.
This project provides a bodyguard set (home CCTV, door opening sensor, window lock device) to prevent crimes such as home intrusion, dating violence, and stalking, which have recently become social issues, and to protect female households vulnerable to various crimes. The city supported a total of 384 households, targeting single female households and single-parent families.
Ms. Kim, who lives in Bonggok-dong, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Raising my child alone, I was very worried not only about my own safety but also about my children being exposed to crime. Thanks to receiving the bodyguard set, I live with peace of mind.”
Hwang Eun-chae, Director of Family Childcare Division, said, “We hope this project will alleviate the anxiety of vulnerable groups and help prevent crimes against women in advance,” adding, “We will continue to make great efforts to create a women-friendly city, Gumi.”
A women-friendly city refers to a city where women and men participate equally in local policy processes, and where women’s empowerment, community safety enhancement, and family-friendly (care) environment creation are realized. Gumi was first designated as a women-friendly city in 2013, re-designated in 2018, and is now accelerating preparations for the third designation in 2023.
