Taiwan Representative Office in Korea: "Suspicious Package First Sent from China"

The Taipei Mission in Korea recently explained that the "suspicious packages" sent from Taiwan and other overseas locations and distributed nationwide were "initially dispatched from China."

On the 21st, the mission posted on its website, stating, "The Taipei Mission in Korea immediately notified our Ministry of Finance Customs Administration (Taiwan's customs authority) to conduct an investigation regarding this matter."

According to the mission, the packages were initially sent from China, transited through Taiwan, and finally arrived in Korea.

The mission explained, "The investigation results and related materials were promptly shared with the Korean police and relevant agencies, and currently, the related departments of both countries are maintaining close communication and cooperating."

They added, "Currently, most Korean media are giving significant coverage to the incident and are urging special caution regarding the 'suspicious packages sent from Taiwan.' Local governments are also requesting citizens not to open packages sent from Taiwan and Taipei."

According to the police and others, there were 987 reports nationwide to the emergency number 112 about suspicious packages on the 21st alone.

It has been confirmed that the packages contained inexpensive items such as lip balm randomly or were empty, and no toxic or harmful substances have been detected so far.
