No Unusual Substances Found
False Reports Continue
As suspicious packages originating from overseas have been discovered across the country causing a commotion, similar packages were also found in Seoul.
According to the police on the 21st, a report was received around 4 p.m. that day about a postal item suspected to contain hazardous materials at the Seoul Central Post Office in Jung-gu, Seoul, leading to the evacuation of about 1,700 citizens.
Upon inspection by the police and fire authorities, the package was identified as an unidentified "yellow package" sent from Taiwan. These packages have been found nationwide on the same day. They are known to be sent from Taipei, Taiwan, in yellow or black envelopes. The package was determined not to be an explosive device and was collected for precise component analysis. Controls on the post office and related areas have since been lifted.
Earlier that day, at around 9:25 a.m., a similar package was reported in Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul. The police advised the reporter to return the package to the post office and then arrived at around 2 p.m. to inspect the package.
However, the police stated that no unusual substances have been found in these packages so far. A police official explained, "In the initial case reported in Ulsan, there were no abnormalities found during hospital examinations, and the postal item was an empty envelope with no substances inside."
Local governments have even sent disaster alert messages, and there have been reports of mistaken calls regarding postal items from Taiwan. The police urged, "If you receive a similar postal item, please do not open it and immediately report it to the nearest police station or call 112."
