Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it is operating a mobile bathing service and cooling fog in the Ssingbang Village area to manage hygiene and health for Ssingbang residents and homeless people during the summer.

As of June this year, there are 416 Ssingbang residents in Yeongdeungpo-gu, most of whom are vulnerable groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, elderly living alone, and people with disabilities. There are 323 homeless people who are exposed to the summer heatwave without protection.

The mobile bathing service is a project that has been supporting bathing by parking a special vehicle equipped with shower facilities in the Ssingbang Village area since 2012. It is operated under consignment by the Yeongdeungpo Bohyeon Comprehensive Support Center, and this year thorough preparations such as hiring workers and vehicle maintenance have been made to ensure smooth bathing services.

The mobile bathing service operates Monday to Friday (excluding weekends and holidays) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the public restrooms in Yeongdeungpo Ssingbang Village. Towels, soap, shampoo, underwear, and other bathing necessities are provided free of charge for homeless people and Ssingbang residents.

Along with this, the district has been operating cooling fog in four alleys of Ssingbang Village since mid-June as a new environmental improvement project for heatwave-vulnerable groups.

Cooling fog is a cooling device that sprays purified water as fine artificial mist through special nozzles, effectively lowering the surrounding temperature by about 3 to 5℃. During heatwave warnings, it operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in cycles of 3 minutes on and 3 minutes off. The cooling fog is operated by the Yeongdeungpo Ssingbang Counseling Center and contributes to minimizing heatwave damage and reducing fine dust for Ssingbang residents.

A resident living in Ssingbang Village said, “I cool off from the scorching heat by standing under the cooling fog outside my home,” and added, “I am grateful that cooling fog has been installed in Ssingbang Village as well. Thanks to it, I feel a bit relieved.”

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Heatwaves are even harsher for socially vulnerable groups living in poor environments,” and said, “We will do our utmost to implement heatwave protection measures so that Ssingbang residents and homeless people can spend the summer healthily.”
