Japanese Woman Holding Baby Boards Gyeonggi-do Bus
"After Boarding, Announcement Asking to Give Up Seat Played"
A Japanese mother with a baby, who boarded a city bus on her way home from work, expressed her gratitude for the bus driver's warm announcement.
According to Suwon Passenger Transport on the 21st, a post titled "Thank you so much to the driver of bus number 98 who was considerate of a mother with a baby" was recently uploaded on the 'Let's Compliment' board on the Gyeonggi-do Bus Transport Association website.
According to the post, Ms. A, a Japanese woman living in Korea with her husband, boarded bus number 98 heading towards Yeongtong from Mangpo Middle School in Suwon at around 6:27 PM on the 19th, holding her baby.
Since it was rush hour and the bus was crowded, the driver made an announcement saying, "There is a baby on board, so please kindly give up your seat." Thanks to this, passengers made way in the aisle, and one female passenger even gave up her seat to Ms. A.
Ms. A said, "As a foreigner, thanks to the driver, I once again felt the warmth of Korea," and added, "Although I came to Korea because of my husband, the driver's consideration made me feel glad that I came to Korea."
She continued, "I don't know the driver's name, but I really want to express my gratitude," and "If I meet him again, I want to convey my thankful feelings."
Earlier, this story became known after a post titled "The attitude of the bus driver towards a mother with a baby" was uploaded on an online community the day before.
The post was written by Mr. B, Ms. A's husband, who said, "In these harsh days, there are still heartwarming moments like this, which makes me feel once again that our Republic of Korea is a country full of affection and consideration."
In particular, the post attracted attention when a netizen, who identified themselves as a driver operating the same bus number 98, left a comment.
The netizen praised, "That driver usually makes announcements asking passengers to hold onto handrails and give up seats for safety," and added, "He does this not just yesterday but always for the safety of passengers on board." They also mentioned, "He was even selected as an outstanding employee before the COVID-19 pandemic."
Netizens who read this news responded with comments such as, "I hope our society becomes one full of such consideration and warmth," "This heartwarming news is comforting after a long time," and "Both the driver and the passengers who gave up their seats are wonderful."
